Morpho Introduces Technologies Optimized for Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform

Info
2018/10/22

Tokyo, Japan – October 22, 2018– Morpho, Inc. (hereinafter, “Morpho”), a global leader in image processing solutions, announced their image enhancement technologies, "MovieSolid®” and ”Morpho Video Denoiser™”, which are optimized for Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Mobile Platforms.

These technologies utilize Qualcomm® Hexagon™ Vector Processor, which supports improved power consumption and performance with potential merits such as enabling offload of CPU bandwidths as well as improved processing time for richer video experience on mobile devices.

Corresponding Technologies

●“MovieSolid®”: https://www.morphoinc.com/en/technology/vstab
“MovieSolid” is an embedded software program for stabilizing video. It uses “SOFTGYRO®” for detecting motions more accurately between consecutive image frames and correcting them in up to 6 degrees of freedom (DOF: yaw, pitch, roll, and translations along the x, y, z axes). Furthermore, the software is also capable of correcting geometric distortions (i.e., rolling shutter distortions) due to a CMOS sensor.

●“Morpho Video Denoiser™”: https://www.morphoinc.com/en/technology/3dnr
“Morpho Video Denoiser” detects and reduces noise within the frame (spatial noise reduction). Additionally, it compares a frame from another to detect and reduce noise (temporal noise reduction). Together, it implements effective noise reduction in real-time even for video shooting in night scenes or indoor where there is not enough light. While performing effective noise reduction, Morpho’s unique motion detection technology, “SOFTGYRO”, is utilized to minimize blurs caused by hand jitter by correcting alignments between frames. Also, Morpho’s ghost removal algorithm eliminates blurs caused by subject movement to produce sharp output image. Usually, simply brightening a dark image adds noise; however, “Morpho Video Denoiser” performs brightness correction without producing additional noise.

"We are pleased to work with Morpho to help enable their innovative products that are pre-optimized for Snapdragon mobile platforms. This will benefit OEMs to offer even better user experience on certain Qualcomm Technologies’ platforms," said Manvinder Singh, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Both technologies will be introduced at Qualcomm Technologies’ 4G/5G Summit held at the Kerry Hotel in Hong Kong from October 22-24. In addition, Morpho will be delivering a presentation at the Hardware & Software Ecosystem track on October 24th to address about optimization of Morpho’s video processing algorithm on Snapdragon architecture, which includes domain specific accelerator such as Hexagon Vector Processor to realize higher performance and real-time video processing in system-on-chip products.
